Der Name ALUK TODOLO kommt von einer Gerbirgsregion in Süd-Sulawesi (Indonesien) und bezeichnet eine uralte animistische Religion: „Der Weg der Ahnen“. Seit 2004 erschaffen die drei Pariser ihren „Occult Rock“. Ihre Musik lässt sich beschreiben als eine methodische Erkundung der Kraft von musikalischer Trance. Sie verschmelzen dafür gelungen und organisch die treibenden, vereinnahmenden Rhythmen ihres dreckigen Krautrocks mit den abgründigen, disharmonischen Gitarrenklängen ihres okkulten Black Metals. Die reduzierte Instrumentierung ihrer Improvisation aus trockener Perkussion und kratzenden, kreischenden und schimmernden Klängen von Gitarre und Bass lässt pulsierende Adern aus schwarzer Galle in psychedelische Dimensionen sprießen. Aluk Todolos Klangspektrum ist monolithisch und stechend, hypnotisch aber unvorhersehbar, minimalistisch und doch dicht verwoben: eine unentrinnbare Tentakel, die in bedrohlicher, giftiger Umschlingung unweigerlich auf die „andere Seite“ zieht.
Aluk Todolo is an instrumental power trio performing Occult Rock since 2004. Their music is a methodical exploration of the powers of musical trance. Part occult black metal fiend and part snide kraut menace, the band conjures rabid obsessive rhythms and abyssal disharmonic guitars, subliminal spiritualist vibrations and bizarre, magick summonings. Aluk Todolo reduces psychedelic improvisation to a bare, telluric instrumentation, in which dry, spare percussion grievously mines the scrapes, shrieks and shimmer of mutated guitar and bass. The band’s sound is monolithic and stabbing, hypnotic but unpredictable, minimalist yet teeming: a dangerous, noxious coil of all things black. SUM OF R sind in ihrer jetzigen Inkarnation aus Reto Mäder (r (Ural Umbo, JeGong, RM74), Jukka Rämänen (Dark Buddha Rising, Hexvessel, Waste Of Space Orchestra, Dust Mountain) und Marko Neuman (Dark Buddha Rising, Ural Umbo, Waste Of Space Orchestra, Convocation) vielleicht der Inbegriff einer „Roadburn-Band“ – ihre Musik ist fordernd, avangardistisch und „heavy“. Ungehörte (Dis-)Harmonien aus Synth und Gesang, minimalistisch flüsternde Gitarren – getragen von einem hypnotisch-schleppenden Schlagzeug, welches in geradezu karger Reduziertheitdurch bloße Akzentuierung den unerwartet wuchtigen aus- und über dich hereinbrechenden Klangwänden zu einer Schwere verhilft, die erlebt werden muss, um sie begreifen zu können.

URAL UMBO könnten als „dissonant psych-rock alter ego“ von Sum of R bezeichnet werden – auch hier vereinen sich Reto Mäder mit Jukka Rämänen und Marko Neuman zu einer Symbiose aus Gitarre, Gesang, Synth und Schlagzeug, die unweigerlich und auf verstörend-zarte Weise in düster-bizzare (Unter-)Welten entführt. Das gekonnte Wechselspiel von Weite und Enge fühlt sich an wie im Atemrythmus am Mitternachtsvollmond vorbeiziehende Wolkenwände.

ISKANDR. Mastermind O. (Solar Temple, Turia, Nusquama, Dool) hat mit Unterstützung von Schlagzeuger M. (Solar Temple) seit der ersten Veröffentlichung “Heilig Land” (2016) eine weite Reise zurückgelegt. Anfänglich noch stark im raw psychedelic black metal verortet, haben ISKANDR immer mehr Elemente von doom, dark folk und ambient integriert, gewürzt mit goth rock und post-punk Texturen. Das zuletzt erschienen Werk “Spritus Silvestris” (Geist des Waldes) kommt sehr viel ruhiger und sehnsuchtsvoller (gar wehmütig) daher als seine Vorgänger und lädt ein zu träumerischen Wanderungen in eine (fiktive) Vergangenheit ohne nennenswerten Einfluss des Menschen durch zauberhafte Landschaften.
„Iskandr’s latest offering “Spiritus Sylvestris” appears to be a radical statement in both content and form. Signifying a departure from the black metal roots of the project, the psychedelic folk doom of the new album builds upon the directions of where both “Vergezicht” and “Glas” were already moving towards. “Spiritus Sylvestris” is cinematic in scope: majestic and threatening in its aura of sublime grandeur. SMR.TNI setzt sich mit der bedrückenden Realität erlebter Traumata und Niederlagen auseinander und findet dabei eine Sprache zwischen Noise, vertraktem Gesang und den Grenzen des menschlichen Körpers. Stark mit der Vergangenheit und dem jetzt verbunden, entwickelt sich daraus eine Soundlandschaft zur Reflektion, der inneren Angst und des Prozesses der Heilung.
Die Performance wird zusätzlich von VIDADÖD begleitet. Dem Sound wird hierdurch eine physische Komponente durch Tanz und Improvisation zu Teil, welche die inneren Vorgänge der Musik sichtbar macht. Vidadöd's Performance wird ein Zusammenspiel aus unterdrückter Angst, dem verlassen des eigenen Egos und der Katharsis selbst. RHIZOME WEAVER wird das Lineup als Livesupport vervollständigen.
SMR.TNI meditates on the harsh reality of trauma and failure through noise, vastly layered vocals and the limits of the human body. Strongly connected to their own past and present, they provide a soundscape for reflection, anxiety and the process of healing. In addition, the performance will be graced by VIDADÖD translating the sound into physical form through dance, improvisation and anything neccessary to visualize the somatic response to the experience. Vidadöd performs with engagement of repressed fear, anti ego of self and of cathartic natures. An in the moment piece often unstructured and of the present energy of all surrounding. Usually reactive to unheard music & an unplanned journey. Completing the lineup, noise artist RHIZOME WEAVER will provide live support.
